GK – David de Gea, Manchester United
The much maligned Spaniard was in terrific form at Carrow Road in the last-gasp win over Norwich. Most notably, he stood up well to the aerial bombardment the home side threw at him and made a number of terrific stops.
RB – Bacary Sagna, Arsenal
The French full-back scored the Gunners’ first goal in an astonishing comeback and supplied the ball for Tomas Rosicky to finish. A magnificent display of drive and desire.
LB – Aleksandar Kolarov, Manchester City
Although he had nearly nothing to do defensively, Kolarov put in an exceptional display at full-back. The Serbian international had a hand in all three goals, directly setting up two.
CB – Matthew Upson, Stoke City
It was a relieving day for Stoke, as they managed to halt a run of four straight losses. A goal and a clean sheet for Upson against a lively Swansea City side were the highlights.
CB – David Luiz, Chelsea
Despite what you may think of his defending, there is no doubt the Brazilian centre-half has talent. People have said he should be playing in midfield but his goal here was taken like a striker.
LM – Ryan Giggs, Manchester United
He was always going to be here, wasn’t he? The Welshman capped his 900th appearance with the winning goal in injury time. He also put in another assured performance that also had a few moments of top quality.
RM – Matt Jarvis, Wolverhampton Wanderers
It has been a tough week for the midlands club, with Terry Connor’s appointment after a botched new manager search. Wolves showed tremendous spirit to haul themselves back into a game after being 2-0 down and Jarvis got thre ball rolling with the first in a livewire display.
CM – Frank Lampard, Chelsea
He has been making headlines for reasons other than his football but gave those watching a reminder of what he is capable of. A dominant display was capped with the last goal of the game.
CM – Yaya Toure, Manchester City
The Citizens have been missing their midfield general since he left for the AFCON and showed why here with a typically powerful performance, driving his side forward in the steamrollering of Blackburn.
CM – Tomas Rosicky, Arsenal
It seemed like a 90 minutes of redemption for the 31-year-old who has suffered so many fitness troubles in his time at Arsenal. Rosicky was outstanding throughout – a perfect balance of skill, incisive passing and desire.
CF – Robin van Persie, Arsenal
